Printers

A major means of communications for the clinic...

Your printed reports and documents will become a significant form of communication between the clinic and your clients. This is one way that you can really look impress the people who trust and support you.
Vetware recognizes two distinct types of printer.
The main printer is set up by your hardware installer, simply as the default printer on each computer. Vetware prepares the design of your client invoices, documents and reports. Then this information is passed on through the printer drivers to your printer, by Windows itself. A feature that you might consider when purchasing your main printer would be its Duty Cycle. Even a large clinic will usually print less than 10,000 pages per month. With the tremendous advances in technology today, printers of this quality level can easily be purchased for less than $500. Please be careful and do not overpay for quality and features that you will not use.
And be careful, while an inkjet printer is very cost-effective to purchase, your daily expenses for ink cartridges are higher than purchasing toner cartridges for laser printers. This makes laser printers a much better purchase in the long run.

Good system printers include...

  • HP LaserJet 1022
  • HP LaserJet 1160
  • Brother HL-2040
  • Brother HL-5150

  • A secondary label printer is used by the software. As you are doing your work, the label printer will recognize when it is required and the appropriate labels will print automatically. That's all part of a single entry system. The best label printer available on the market is the DYMO Labelwriter. This thermal label printer is perfect for the Vetware system. You can see this sleek little machine at the DYMO site.
In the past, the price of the labels was often a concern, but this issue has been addressed by the highly cost-effective labels manufactured and distributed by Elecompack Systems.
You can purchase both your DYMO printer and your daily use labels at this one location.
It certainly would be fair to say that the Seiko Labelwriter printer is also very good. But I have had more difficulty installing these printers over the network. And it is a package deal. Good looks, quick effective printing, great installation and a good price: the DYMO is my recommendation.
